Florida Just Banned Psilocybin Spores. Here’s Why It Doesn’t Spell the End for Psychedelic Mushrooms in the Sunshine State

The Florida Legislature just passed the 2025 Farm Bill—and buried deep within it is a provision that will soon make psilocybin spores and mycelium illegal. Once Governor Ron DeSantis signs it (which is expected), it will become a first-degree misdemeanor to transport, sell, or even give away mushroom spores or mycelium that could produce any part of a psychedelic mushroom lifecycle—even if the spores themselves don’t contain psilocybin.

To many in the psychedelic community, this may feel like a major blow. For years, spores have existed in a legal gray area in Florida and many other states, allowing people to research and study psilocybe cubensis without fear of prosecution. That loophole is about to close.

But here’s the good news: Not all psychedelic-inspired mushrooms are banned. In fact, Chillum Mushroom and Hemp Dispensary—alongside Learn Euphoria—is leading the way in offering legal, safe, and psilocybin-free mushroom alternatives that still support spiritual exploration, wellness, and community connection.

The Rise of Non-Detect Mushrooms

In response to the crackdown, Learn Euphoria has launched the Non-Detect Mushroom line, made with real Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms that have been selectively bred to contain zero detectable psilocybin. These are not synthetic analogs or questionable extracts. They are real mushrooms—specifically a variation of the Hillbilly cultivar—that have had the illegal compounds bred out of them entirely.

“This mushroom has had the psilocybin bred out,” explains Carlos Hermida, owner of Chillum Dispensary. “So it is completely legal. Just like CBD-rich hemp is to cannabis, these non-detect mushrooms are the hemp of magic mushrooms.”

Available in chocolates, capsules, concentrates, and gummies, these products are sold for educational and spiritual use only, and lab tests confirm there is no psilocybin or psilocin present.

The Magic in the Loophole

The law (SB 700) criminalizes spores or mycelium “capable of producing mushrooms… which will contain a controlled substance, including psilocybin or psilocin.” But if a mushroom is bred specifically not to produce those compounds? It’s fair game.

Florida may have closed one door, but Chillum and Learn Euphoria have already found the next one open. Our Non-Detect Mushroom products allow enthusiasts, students, and seekers to continue exploring the psychedelic experience legally and responsibly.

These new products represent a critical pivot—a smarter, safer evolution of the Shroom Boom.

What Are Non-Detectable Tryptamines?

Tryptamines are a class of compounds that interact with serotonin receptors in the brain—many well-known psychedelics like DMT and psilocybin fall into this category. But not all tryptamines are scheduled substances. In fact, some naturally occurring tryptamines are currently undetectable by standard drug testing equipment, including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) tests.

Learn Euphoria’s formulations are built around these non-detectable tryptamines—structurally similar to classic psychedelics but legal by default, because they can’t be measured and haven’t yet been scheduled by the FDA or DEA.

What’s Next for Florida’s Psychedelic Scene?

As psilocybin spores go illegal, the path forward becomes clearer: Education. Innovation. Legal compliance.

Chillum and Learn Euphoria are at the forefront of that movement, offering functional, fungi-based alternatives that honor the psychedelic tradition while staying within the boundaries of the law.

These new products are now available at Chillum’s two Tampa Bay locations in Ybor City and Downtown St. Petersburg, and select items can be found online at LearnEuphoria.com.

“Maybe, eventually, if there is enough education, we will see all psychedelics legalized,” Hermida says. “Until then, we’ll keep offering what’s legal, safe, and transformative—without breaking the rules.”

Disclaimer: These products are intended for spiritual and educational use only. The FDA and FDACS have not approved the consumption of non-detect tryptamine products. Consumption of these products is considered abuse.
