How Psychedelics Unlock Creativity Through Connectedness

New Research Suggests Psychedelic Users Are More Original and Inspired—Here’s Why
At Learn Euphoria, we’ve long believed in the transformative power of psychedelics—not just for healing, but for awakening untapped potential within the mind. A new study published in PLOS ONE now lends scientific weight to what many in the psychedelic community have felt for years: that psychedelics can enhance creativity, originality, and real-world creative expression.
But what’s the secret behind this boost in creative thinking? The answer might lie in something deeper than brain chemistry—something more existential. According to researchers, the creativity boost may stem from a heightened sense of connectedness.
What the Study Found
In a survey of over 300 participants—half of whom reported past psychedelic use—researchers tested creative thinking using an “alternate uses” task, which evaluates a person’s ability to think divergently (i.e., come up with many unique ideas). Psychedelic users scored higher in both originality and fluency, suggesting a stronger ability to think outside the box.
Beyond just test scores, these individuals also reported participating more often in real-life creative activities like painting, writing, or problem-solving.
But perhaps the most fascinating finding? Psychedelic users scored higher on measures of connectedness—to themselves, to others, and to the universe. That sense of interconnectedness appeared to be a major factor in explaining the rise in creativity.
The Creative Power of Connection
If you’ve ever had a profound psychedelic experience, you know that one of its hallmarks is a dissolving of ego—the walls between you and the world melt away. In that space, many people report insights that feel deeply personal, universal, and transcendent all at once.
This feeling of connection doesn’t just feel good—it rewires the way we think. It encourages novel associations, empathetic thinking, and a greater openness to new ideas. These are all foundational elements of the creative process.
It’s not just about “tripping and seeing colors”—it’s about deepening the bridge between your inner world and the collective human experience. That’s where originality is born.
Why This Matters
At Learn Euphoria, we’re committed to advancing psychedelic education not just through science, but through experience and culture. Creativity isn’t just an aesthetic trait—it’s a tool for healing, problem-solving, and human evolution.
As psychedelics enter the mainstream and more people seek intentional, mindful experiences, we hope to see continued research exploring their potential to unlock brilliance from within.
Because when you feel connected to everything, you can create anything.
