Psilocybin Extends the Life of Human Cells by 50% — What That Means for Our Legal Alternatives

A brand-new peer-reviewed study, published on July 8, 2025 in npj Aging, provides the first experimental evidence that psilocin (the active metabolite of psilocybin) can extend the replicative lifespan of human skin and lung cells by over 50%, depending on the dose — and improve survival in aged mice as well.

Study Highlights

  • Human lung fibroblasts treated continuously with 100mM psilocin had a 57% longer lifespan compared to untreated cells; skin fibroblasts showed around 51% lifespan extension at the same dose
Center For Food As Medicine & Longevity
  • Key cellular aging markers were improved: delayed senescence, preserved telomere length, elevated SIRT1, reduced p21, p16, GADD45a, reduced oxidative stress via Nox4/Nrf2 regulation

  • Aged female mice (~60–65 human years) received monthly psilocybin (5mg/kg initially, then 15mg/kg for 10 months). 80% of treated mice survived to study end vs 50% of controls, and treated mice appeared physically healthier (better fur, regrowth, less whitening)

What This Means for Learn Euphoria

At Learn Euphoria, all our non-detect tryptamine products are derived from Psilocybe cubensis, the same mushroom species from which psilocybin and psilocin naturally originate. Even though our mushrooms have been selectively bred to be free of psilocybin, they still contain non-detectable tryptamines. These compounds are structurally very similar to psilocybin/psilocin, and likely interact with the same serotonin-related pathways in the body.

In other words:

  • Our products offer a legal, lab-tested alternative while retaining molecular similarity to psilocybin’s active mechanisms.
  • Given the new findings about psilocin’s geroprotective potential, it’s reasonable to posit that our non-detect tryptamines may provide analogous cellular benefits, though without detectable psilocybin for legal compliance.

We see this study as validation of the broader idea that tryptamines derived from Psilocybe cubensis can influence not just mental states, but potentially cellular aging processes—opening new frontiers for wellness and longevity.

At Learn Euphoria, we build on the science of tried-and-true natural compounds, with product quality, legality and safety at the forefront. Our non-detect tryptamines offer a legal bridge to the benefits of psilocin—without psilocybin—and now, this landmark research helps shine light on what their effects might mean at a cellular level.

Final Notes:

  • This is preclinical research—conducted in cells and aged mice, not yet in humans.
  • While the findings are promising, human trials are still needed to confirm any anti-aging effects in people.
  • As always, consult healthcare professionals before exploring new bioactive substances.
